Kaleiçi Walking Route
A relaxed half-day route through Antalya's historic old town, from the Roman gate to the harbour.
The route in order
- Hadrian's Gate: a triple-arched gate built to honour a visit by the Roman emperor Hadrian, and the most picturesque entrance to the old town.
- Yivli Minaret: the landmark mosque with a tall fluted minaret, linked to the Seljuk period.
- Kesik Minaret: a building that was a Roman temple, later a Byzantine church and now a mosque, a good example of the layers of history here.
- Clock Tower: one of the few surviving parts of the ancient city walls, with a view over the city.
- Hıdırlık Tower: an ancient Roman tower with panoramic views of the harbour and the coast.
- Old harbour and marina: the Roman harbour that the old town grew around; today yachts, boat trips and cafés. Mermerli Beach is just beside it if you want a swim.
Getting there
- Walk from the city centre; the nostalgic tram stops at Kalekapısı, a convenient entrance.
- City buses also stop at or near Kaleiçi.
- Streets are narrow and cobbled; wear comfortable shoes.
Good to know
- Kaleiçi is a protected historic district, so many buildings are preserved Ottoman-era houses turned into boutique hotels, guesthouses, cafés and shops.
- Evenings are lively and pleasant in summer; mornings are better for photos and for avoiding heat.
- Check museum opening hours and prices with official sources before you go.
